Culture Services Assistant - Summer 2023

Position Description:
The Economic Development – Arts and Culture team delivers and facilitates quality cultural programs that enhance community vibrancy. Four positions are required to support culture programs and to provide visitor information services at the Visitor and Heritage Information Centre. Our team’s mission is to support the attraction and retention of local talent, cultural tourism and placemaking.

Rate of pay: $20.20/hour

Hours of work:  Hours will vary due to scheduling requirements, including evening, weekend and holiday shifts.  Shifts will typically be scheduled between 9am and 4pm, Monday to Sunday from May 1 to September 4, 2023, and between 9am and 4pm on weekends from September 5 - October 16, 2023.  The Visitor and Heritage Information Centre has regular operating hours between May and mid-October, flexible availability between May and October is therefore required.

Tasks & Accountabilities:
• Operate the City of Waterloo’s Visitor and Heritage Information Centre, greet visitors to the centre and provide tourism information
• Perform administrative functions such as open and close procedures, research, and collection and analysis of visitor data
• Assist with culture program delivery
• Assist with the promotion of local artists and community organizations
• Assist the Economic Development Division with the preparation and distribution of marketing materials

Requirements:
• Demonstrated knowledge of the City of Waterloo and its local tourism environment
• Ability to communicate effectively and provide excellent customer service
• Excellent research skills
• Ability to work independently and organize work tasks with minimal direction
• Experience with delivery of public programs would be considered an asset
• A satisfactory police criminal and judicial matters check is required as a condition of hire
