  • To perform a wide range of operational, maintenance, administrative and construction  activities within  the Recreation Services Division of Community Services  Department, with occasional assistance to other facility location(s) and/or departments
  • To participate and perform facility operations and maintenance activities as required for effective, safe and efficient day to day operating in a recreational facility environment (arena, pool, meeting rooms, banquet rooms, indoor common areas, exterior property grounds)
  • To provide excellent customer service, professional and effective communication with the public as a representative of the City and facility – daily interaction with facility users, able to resolve customer problems with positive solutions and outcomes
  • To respond to on-site emergencies in accordance with policies and procedures (e.g. facility emergency response, medical emergencies, vandalism, incident and security reporting)
  • Participate in special event operations and service delivery
  • Assist with training , orientation and guidance of part-time Operations Associate staff
  • Ensure that record keeping, update log books and reporting are completed as required
  • Adherence to all relevant health and safety related policies and procedures
  • Perform additional related duties as requested by Recreation Services operations
  • May be required to participate on various City teams and initiatives


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must hold a current and valid TSSA Refrigeration Operator Class “B” Certificate
  • Minimum Grade 12 education
  • 2 years experience in arena and recreation facilities operations, maintenance and associated equipment use; related work experience obtained within the last 5 years is required
  • Must hold or be willing to obtain the “Certified Ice Technician” designation
  • Must hold or be willing to obtain the “Certified Pool Operator” certificate
  • Must hold or be willing to obtain valid First Aid, AED certification
  • Familiarity and able to demonstrate knowledge, skills and experience with all aspects of arena and recreation facility operations including building and mechanical operations, ice making, ice rehabilitation and repair, pool operations related to a designated Class “A” pool operation (pump, filtration systems, pool chemistry and water quality monitoring), special event set-up/move-out/operational delivery aspect for special events
  • Proven ability to deal cooperatively, efficiently and effectively in providing  quality customer service to external and internal  customers the public , other external agencies
  • Ability to work constructively and supportive in a team environment and act independently as required, exercising good judgment and safe and appropriate practices and procedures
  • Able to lead and supervise other team members (part-time staff)
  • Physically able to perform all activities in this area of work (i.e. lifting, climbing and working above ground level on ladders, scaffolds, upright lifts, etc.) and able to pass a current physical examination, if required
  • Must hold a valid Class “G” driver’s license with a good driving record
  • A satisfactory police criminal record and judicial matters check will be required as a condition of hire


Further Responsibilities

  • Must hold or be willing to obtain the required supplementary training related to the Business Unit including, but not limited to:  Recreation Facility Equipment Operations, Work Place Hazardous Materials Information systems (WHMIS), Propane Handling & Safety, Forklift & Boom Lift, Lock out/Tag out, Safe Work & Operating Procedures, Health & Safety Awareness, and other mandatory employee training set out by the Corporation from time to time.  Employees will be responsible to ensure that their certificates and licenses are current and valid.


Rate of Pay

Arena and Facility Attendant Rate with “B” Certification  – Job Class ‘E’  $27.97 per hour in accordance with the terms of the CUPE collective agreement, plus applicable shift premium*

* shift premium applicable as per the Collective Agreement

* Shift Information: This position involves a rotating shift operation covering seven days per week based on program and operational requirements.  Full time hours are 120 total work hours over a 21 day schedule period
