Description

Position Description:

The City of Waterloo has a Seasonal Labourer position available in the Transportation Services division commencing in December for up to a five (5) month term.  Shift work will be required based upon operational requirements, including evenings, weekends, nights and holidays.

Accountabilities:

  • Participate in winter control operations (shift work) including salt application and snow removal with snow removing vehciles and equipment
  • Participate in general Transportation Services operations including but not limited to leaf collection, cold/hot aphalt patching, and landscaping as required
  • Ensure safe and efficient operation, care and maintenance of tools, equipment and vehicles
  • Perform daily checks on vehicles and equipment, including documentation of any issues and daily log documentation
  • Operate loader with all attachments (bucket, plow, wing, etc.) during winter control, snow and leaf loading operations
  • Maintain a safe work environment by taking necessary precautions and applying safety procedures in accordance with health and safety legislation and City of Waterloo policies
  • Maintain proper written records of activities as required
  • Communicate and co-operate effectively with others, respecting the values of the corporation, both internally and externally
  • Will be required to perform other duties as assigned

Job Requirements:

  • Minimum of Grade 12 Education or equivalent
  • 1-3 years of experience in a related field involving manual physical labour and operation of power tools, vehicles and equipment
  • Valid MTO ‘DZ’ class driver’s license in good standing with driver’s abstract acceptable to the City is required to perform the job
  • Must have a working knowledge with winter control operations including but not limited to salting, loading snow, snow plowing
  • Snow Fighter training is an asset; must be willing to attend
  • Previous experience working with asphalt, leaf collection, landscape construction and winter control operations is preferred
  • Experience in road construction environment is preferred
  • Truck and loader experience is preferred
  • Capable of performing the physical demands of the position, including lifting and kneeling on a regular basis
  • Willing and able to work in an outdoor environment and actively participate in daily activities in various weather conditions
  • Ability to work efficiently in a team environment and demonstrate leadership skills
  • Motivated, hardworking and able to work with minimal supervision
  • Available and willing to work day, evening and weekend shifts where required
  • Satisfactory Police Record and Judicial Matters Check is a condition of hire

**Shift Information: Shift work will be required based upon operational requirements, including evenings, weekends, nights and holidays

Rate of Pay:

Class D: $28.64 per hour (Winter Control)

Shift Premium may apply in accordance with the CUPE 1542 Collective Agreement. 

In accordance with Appendix ‘A’ Wage Schedule, a rate of 5% less than the corresponding pay rate will apply for any incumbent while serving a probationary period.
