The City of Waterloo has multiple Seasonal Labourer positions available in the Parks, Forestry and Cemetery Services division commencing in April for up to an eight (8) month term.  Shift work may be required based upon operational requirements, including evenings, weekends, nights and holidays.


  • Ensure safe and efficient operation, care and maintenance of tools, equipment and vehicles
  • Operate and perform daily checks on vehicles and equipment (which may include power tools, backhoe, tractor mower, pickup truck, dump truck, etc.), including documentation of any issues and daily log documentation
  • Landscape work which may include grass cutting, tree and shrub maintenance, planting, sodding and irrigation
  • May participate in sports fied maintenance and special events preparation
  • Maintain a safe work environment by taking necessary precautions and applying safety procedures in accordance with health and safety legislation and City of Waterloo policies
  • Maintain proper written records of activities as required
  • Communicate and co-operate effectively with others, respecting the values of the corporation, both internally and externally
  • Perform other duties as assigned


  • Minimum of Grade 12 Education or equivalent
  • 1-3 years of experience in a related field involving manual physical labour and operation of power tools, vehicles and equipment
  • Valid MTO ‘G’ class driver’s license in good standing with driver’s abstract acceptable to the City is required to perform the job
  • Landscape experience including grass cutting, tree and shrub maintenance, sodding is an asset
  • Equipment experience including: backhoe, tractor mower, pickup truck, dump truck is an asset
  • Experience in irrigation and concrete work is an asset
  • Strong customer service and communication skills
  • Capable of performing the physical demands of the position, including lifting and kneeling on a regular basis
  • Willing and able to work in an outdoor environment and actively participate in daily activities in various weather conditions
  • Ability to work efficiently in a team environment and demonstrate leadership skills
  • Motivated, hardworking and able to work with minimal supervision
  • Available and willing to work day, evening and weekend shifts where required
  • Satisfactory Police Record and Judicial Matters Check and Drivers Abstract Check is a condition of hire
Sports and Outdoor Programming Additional Requirements:
  • Previous sports, farm animal care and special events support experience is preferred

  • Cemetery positions are required to support a Tuesday to Saturday shift
  • Horticulture positions will involve work hours with early morning start to day shift, weekends and holidays to support the watering program
  • Sports and Outdoor programming positions involve shift work, weekends, and holiday

Seasonal Labourer – Horticulture - $26.72 / hour

Seasonal Labourer – Forestry - $26.72 / hour

Seasonal Labourer – Cemetery Services - $26.72 / hour
