Position Description:

The Maximo Project Lead will work closely with the Maximo Project Team to lead the implementation of Maximo application and its ongoing operation.  We are looking for a results-oriented Project Management leader to apply technology to improve business processes with a solid Maintenance Management System (MMS) background, understanding of Asset Management concepts and a proven track record of successful application implementation management in traditional IT environments that are highly integrated with Open Systems.   This position will act as “an agent of change.”

Through the analysis of operations’ needs and user-centric requirements, this position will collaborate with key technology subject matter experts, stakeholders, and partners to define business process that Maximo will enable and improve efficiencies and effectiveness with the use of the Maximo application.  This position must articulate those ideas while balancing them against what is technologically feasible, and financially and functionally reasonable. 

This position interacts with stakeholders and peers to elicit all requirements needed to implement enterprise solutions and analyze and evaluate issues and data challenges while working from a task list with little supervision.


  • Plan, coordinate and review the work plan for the application implementation team across maintenance, enhancement, and project activities
  • Prioritize and schedule tasks in the best interest of corporate goals; handle everyday requests in a timely manner to minimize operating disruptions
  • As a working project leader, participate in all aspects of process mapping, business solution development and support
  • Identify and manage project dependencies and critical path, and track project milestones and deliverables
  • Resolve issues within the project team
  • Develop and deliver progress reports, proposals, requirements documentation, and presentations
  • Determine the frequency and content of status reports from the project team, analyze results, and troubleshoot problem areas
  • Proactively manage changes in project scope, identify potential crises, and devise contingency plans
  • Define project success criteria and disseminate them to the involved parties throughout project life cycle
  • Interact and negotiate with vendors and contractors to secure cost effective professional services and contract labour as needed
  • Collaborate with the business and third party quality control teams involved in system integration and user acceptance testing practices
  • Ensure quality for all coding deliverables
  • Maintain an adherence to the enterprise architecture for all software implementation
  • Provide ad-hoc reporting and decision support required for management decision processes
  • Participate in technology decisions that affect Maximo and other associated corporate applications i.e. PeopleSoft, GIS
  • As business areas transition to new Maximo functions or changes in business processes, this position provides some operational support and training, and develops both training programs and support protocols for other staff to utilize
  • Responsible for the operations and maintenance protocols and the transition of these to a mature service model
  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology or Business Administration (or other degree with a strong technology exposure, such as Engineering or Management Accounting) with a minimum 5 years of project management experience in Technology Application development or expansion and 2 years of hands-on experience working with Maintenance Management Systems applications, preferably in Maximo; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Good understanding and working knowledge of Asset Management processes
  • Proven success managing and delivering projects
  • Ability to meet established deadlines;  a self-starter with the ability to work independently and within  a team; and comfortable making decisions in ambiguity
  • Action and results oriented, with excellent communication and presentation skills, and the ability to present ideas in a collaborative team setting  in user-friendly language
  • Demonstrated strengths in team management and leadership  with a proven track record of success in a similar working environment
  • A proven team player with a focus on results and fostering partnerships with other divisions
  • Ability to work in complex large scale application implementation projects using agile methodologies
  • Excellent organization, multitasking and interpersonal skills in a professional environment are critical to this position
  • Municipal government and service delivery experience would be considered an asset
  • Applicants may be required to undergo testing as part of the recruitment process
