Custodial Associate-Bechtel Park (Part Time/Casual)

Position Description:

Part-time Custodial Associates are responsible for assisting in the day-to-day maintenance & custodial needs of City of Waterloo, Manulife Soccer and Sports Centre (Bechtel Park).

Rate of pay: $14.40 - $14.80 per hour

Primary Work locations:   Bechtel Park –Manulife Soccer and Sports Centre, 185 Bridge St W. and Parkview Cemetery

Hours of work

Up to 24 hours per week; primarily early morning shifts. May also include evening, weekend and holiday shifts. **

Accountabilities:

  • Ensuring facilities are maintained at a high level of housekeeping and ready for use

  • Providing excellent customer service to users of the facility

  • Thorough cleaning of washrooms, office areas, kitchen facilities, change rooms and collection of garbage and recycling

  • Sweeping and mopping, including dust mopping, general dusting, glass cleaning and vacuuming.

  • Manual scrubbing of floors

  • Helping to meet requirements for programs and special events

  • Ensuring equipment is properly maintained and supplies are well stocked

  • Maintaining a safe environment for coworkers and the general public

  • Identifying and reporting any safety hazards or damage to the facility or equipment

  • Communicating and interacting effectively with other facility staff and coworkers

  • Performing opening and/or closing duties, including key holding responsibilities

  • Attend training and staff meetings as requested

  • Other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications:

  • Some Secondary School education or equivalent

  • General custodial or housekeeping experience is an asset

  • Experience in a customer service environment; recreational facility experience an asset

  • Basic understanding of health & safety principles such as safe handling of cleaning products and safe use of equipment

  • Ability to plan daily tasks and organize workload with minimal supervision

  • Effective Communication & interpersonal skills for communicating with the team & general public

  • A satisfactory Police Criminal Record and Judicial Matters Check is a condition of hire

* Please note that this position requires access to reliable transportation as work hours are outside of public transportation operations. You may be required to work at other City of Waterloo locations.

**Shift premium applies between the hours of 12:00 AM – 7:00 AM
